Apple's "Think Different"

Apple's brands, the ipod and the ipad have caused a revolution in the present technology where the latest gadgets are concerned.  I remember one of my nieces asking me, "Do you have this?" holding up the ipod she just borrowed.  To the young, the ipod is a signature brand and gives them a sense of socioeconomic identity.  And for other reasons of having them is because they love listening to music and watching downloaded movies on their ipod or ipad anywhere, anytime. Their sizes are very convenient to be carried around. Thanks to the creativity and innovative ideas of Apple.  Come to think  of it, those who are truly creative and come up with all things new and different are those who catch the attention of others  and they last.  Just like the words in Apple's "Think Different" ad campaign that goes:

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine.
They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.
Maybe they have to be crazy.
How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art?
Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written?
Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Maintaining Our Relationships

After spending some years together, it gives me much speculation why most couples separate or divorce. We hear about the many itches- the 7-year itch, 10-year itch, 20-year itch, is there such a thing? What happened to the attraction and fascination for each other?
I suppose we should blame it on how we have handled our relationships after the dazzling affairs of engagement and marriage. When the kids are born, romance has slowly dwindled with the taking of responsibilities. Everything now becomes routine and we forget what kept the spark in our relationship. Wives get bored and busy at home while husbands get busier earning to keep up with the family needs and become oblivious to the domestic goings-on. If not, both are too immersed in their own tasks and responsibilities altogether.  Did we take time to ponder on the things we must have missed? Here is a list of essentials on how to keep a relationship going.

  1. Take time out to be together. It helps build intimacy in your relationship. We love to be cherished amidst the hustle and bustle in our lives.
  2. Have open communication. Talk about anything that has transpired at work, at home and issues concerning you and your family.
  3. Say the magic word ‘I Love You’ more often. Your wives want to be assured that you love them.
  4. Hold each other as often as you can. Psychologists have proven the heartening and healing power of physical touch.
  5. Be honest about everything.  Many lies have severely damaged a lot of relationships.

It is inevitable that relationships go through some trying moments sometimes and there really is no perfect relationship. There may be some things that we lack that causes the other to feel discontented or unsatisfied but this is due to a difference in personalities. The reason why relationships last and stay strong is because both parties have taken time to talk about their differences and the issues surrounding them. It is not easy to do but once you were able to sit down together and start talking, you have already taken the first step to a better, lasting and enjoyable relationship.

PRE-READING ACTIVITIES FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS

Before a child goes off to formal school, parents have always made it a point to have taught their children how to write their name, distinguish some basic colors and answer basic questions they may encounter in school. However, not all children have the same level of learning at the same age. Each child is a unique individual with his own pace of learning. Some children can read at a very early age while others are still getting there. There is no quick and easy way to let a child learn how to read. There are a variety of methods which teachers use to establish reading and it is best learned in school. There are some activities however, that can reinforce reading for your child.

  1. Read stories together. This can be done in the afternoons or before bedtime. Constantly reading aloud to him will gradually awaken his interest for reading. Additionally, it allows a moment of spending time together.
  2. Take him to different places with you such as the supermarket, department store, park, zoo, circus, playgrounds, parades, etc. Tell him about all the things he sees. This will enrich his vocabulary.
  3. When you go out on a family trip or vacation, talk about the place and event for this helps widen his knowledge about people and places and will develop his interest too.
  4. Allow him to explore and discover new experiences through playing, drawing, painting, molding clay and doing crafts. It will enhance his imagination and creativity.
  5. Let him watch programs on television that are child-friendly. Children learn from what they see and hear.
  6. Allow him to listen to music and let him dance and sing along too.

Reading for preschoolers usually begin with the basic concepts and it would do good to expose your child to new and wholesome experiences around him to develop his knowledge, interest and enhance his vocabulary and by the time he enters preschool, the learning situation will be easier for him.
