The Truth About Love

"...When we love someone our love becomes demonstrable or real only through our exertion - though the fact that for that someone we take an extra step or walk an extra mile. Love is not effortless. To the contrary, love is effortful..." (M. Scott Peck)

How do you define love? How do you know if you really love someone?
There are many misconceptions about love. Some equate love to sex but come to think of it, sex can be done without love. Some say love is a feeling. Most men and women have gone through heaven and hell because of it. Some say it is an act of will. It is a choice. But how can you say you choose to love someone when in fact you do not love?

'Love is effortful.' Sadly, many relationships fade away because one or the other does not truly make any effort of loving. Many infidelities are borne out of not taking an extra step or walking the extra mile in consideration of the other. A person who truly loves will always seek to see the uniqueness and the value of the other person. A person who truly loves will respect the individuality and the position of the other and will never find ways to hurt. In a loving relationship, a sincere person can only say, "I love you" to the person he truly loves and cares about. On the other hand, there are some who hide their infidelities behind the word, "I love you."

The journey of love requires courage, thought and action. It is only you who can go through the decisive path. It is truly a lonely road for those who are going through a wounded relationship. But it would be the happiest journey once you have found true love.
